Week 5
The assignment
Collaboration
Weekly zine
In short; this week was about creating an interactive map of the knowledge mile (the wibautstraat from waterlooplein to amstel station). We teamed up in fours and had to walk the knowledge mile, every one of us had a rol during this walk.
We focussed on public announcements and graffiti.

During the walk I drew everything that seemed interesting to me (looking at the public announcements). It was a little too cold so it was hard to have a steady hand!
The day after the walk - Neza, Moritz and Anna met up
and connected the pictures taken on the route. I sadly couldn't be there (I was working). This map turned out to be very helpful for the making of our map.

They also decided that we will make these two maps; one for public announcements (which Moritz and Neza will make) and one for graffiti (which Anna and I will do).
While looking at the other map I made this sketch of the knowledge mile, focussing on the buildings. Anna and I decided not to focus on the graffiti itself, but on the buildings where there is still space for graffiti. To create a map that's great for anyone who has a personal announcement. I created this sketch and took in how big the surface roughly is and what kind of material it is made of
With my sketch map Anna and I made this map below in Adobe Illustrator. We gave the surfaces shapes and decided that we needed to create something to show how big the surface is for the personal announcements. We came up with an AR!
I lasercut the outline of the map
After downloading and trying out a few different AR prototyping tools, we found onorix. A free software that gives you the option to make a simple AR on your laptop and showable on your phone! We tried it out with some pictures and text, and decided to make a 3D model of the buildings. Anna knew exactly how to make a 3D model, so she was going to focus on that and I would focus on the textures on the map.
The Textures
For the textures there were basically only four different ones;
- Brick
- Road
- Concrete
- Wood
The brick walls and buildings did differ, the bricks were bigger or smaller or placed differently. So I decided to take notice of these brick patterns.

To express the textures on the map, I decided to either engrave the texture or lay another layer on top of the map. We decided to try both. After engraving on blue paper we found out that the engravement turns green. With this knowledge we decided to engrave the textures and lay the brick textures on top (with matching colors!)

The AR on our map
For the fo
Trying out if trigger points (such as block or dots) would help the AR to focus where the placement of the animation should be.
I am very positive about the collaboration I had with Anna. When I try to explain an idea, she completely understands what I mean and how we can visualise and make this idea. She gives me the space to try out and do my own thing (which she could do too) but we always come back and discuss what should be different. When I didn't like something I could honestly tell her, critique is not a problem!

We are both very motivated and add a lot to each-others skills. Next to all this amazing teamwork, Anna is a person I like to talk with. I would like to try and work together on one of the upcoming projects, as this assignment was a good taste of the collaborating Anna and I have!

The only thing that could go wrong with me and Anna working together; when we have a good idea, we both really want to stick to it... So as long as we have the same ideas, everything is good!
In the beginning of the week we had a very interesting discussion and gender bias came up. I chose to make a zine of this word because it is something that plays a big role in my life. When I was little I was forced to grow up as a very 'girly' girl, when I was finally old enough tho choose I became a very tomboyish girl.

I made this zine by cutting out pictures and drawings out of some magazines and I wrote some text around it.
